Monitoring the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Georgia
The main purpose of this shadow report is to synthesize research data and case studies in order to draw attention to gaps in the SDG implementation process in Georgia and highlight successful cases where appropriate. Focusing specifically on SDG 5 – Gender Equality as well as several additional targets, such as SDGs 6 and 7, that are relevant to gender equality and empowerment of women in Georgia. WeResearch team analyzed the current context and developments related to the selected targets and indicators, emphasized important cases and/or problematic issues under each target and developed relevant recommendations for future improvement. As such, the shadow report focuses on the SDG implementation gaps against its targets. The analysis of each target is structured as follows – document review results are followed by case analyses and respective recommendations. Local Gender Equality Initiatives in Uganda
Together with ARUWE, our partner organisation in Uganda, five organisations have been awarded €1000 each to support their projects on gender equality. Under our partnership programme with the European Commission, Women2030, we selected organisations based on their local initiatives on gender and Sustainable DevelopmentGoals (SDG’s). Each of the organisations that received the grants took part in training and personal mentoring sessions. ARUWE organised a two-day workshop on sustainable development, gender equality and women’s rights, as well as training on integrating gender into their programmes. Edu Child Foundation Uganda One of the recipients of the grant is the local non-profit organisation Edu Child Foundation Uganda, working in the communities of Goli – in the Nebbi district (West Nile region of Uganda). Their aim is to create an all-inclusive and transformative Ugandan community where children, women and youth are empowered to fulfil their potential. Call for Applications : Women2030 coalition’s Joint Alternative Report
The Women2030 programme is led by a coalition of 4 women’s rights and gender equality organisations (WECF, APWLD, GFC, WEP). Our goal is to build capacity of women's and gender civil society organisations (CSOs) and engage them in the policy processes of Agenda2030, its corresponding Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on climate action. We collaborate with local partners by facilitating participation in policy development and monitoring, mobilize citizen's support and sharing of best practices. As part of the programme’s activities, the Women2030 country partners have produced alternative reports to the Parties’ Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) on the state of the implementation of the SDGs. The reports are based on desk research, multi-stakeholders’ consultations and the partners’ own gender assessments, and are used as advocacy tools in different policy processes (High Level Political Forum, Commission on the Status of Women…). International Day of #RuralWomen: videos of Women2030 projects in Paraguay and Kenya
On International Day of #RuralWomen we celebrated the crucial role that rural women and girls play in contributing to securing land rights, livelihoods and food sovereignty, as well as building resilience in the face of climate change. We’re very pleased to share with you two short videos on the inspiring work that Indigenous and peasant women in Kenya and Paraguay are doing to take control of their land and lives, and protecting forests and other ecosystems. Forest conservation must address violence against women
by Jeanette Sequeira, Juana Vera Delgado and Ruth Nyambura, Global Forest Coalition November 25th has been designated as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women by the United Nations. The day also marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an international campaign spearheaded by feminists and women’s rights defenders globally to challenge the various manifestations of violence and multiple inequalities that women and girls continue to face. Preliminary findings from gender assessments that GFC has been conducting with grassroots environmental organisations and forest-dependent communities through the Women2030 programme in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan and Paraguay show how violence against women is a major threat not just to women but to community development as a whole and the defence of their land and forests.
