Start-up meeting of Women2030 partners in Nairobi, May 2016
Since May 2016 the Gender and Water Alliance (GWA) is partner coordinator in #Women2030, an alliance of 5 global and regional women and gender networks collaborating to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in a gender equitable and climate-just way. GWA partners with Asia-Pacific Women, Law and Development(APWLD), Global Forest Coalition (GFC), Women Engage for a Common Future(WECF), and Women Environmental Programme (WEP Africa) in a 5 year programme funded by the EU to strengthen Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) participation in sustainable development. The 5 partners will work to build capacity of more than 200 partner CSOs and 2000 local women’s groups in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Caucasus, and Latin America to effectively monitor the implementation of SDGs at regional, national and local level, be strong advocates for mainstreaming gender in development policies and budgets, and raise awareness on the importance of actively involving poor women, men, and marginalised groups in policies for climate change, and achieving the SDGs.
#Women2030 had its global start-up meeting for the project in Nairobi, Kenya from 27-30 May, where Esther de Jong, Juana Vera Delgado, Lioba van Dam and Annabel Waititu participated from GWA. The meeting was followed by the 2nd United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-2), where Juana Vera participated along with Women’s Major Group (WMG) members to advocate for mainstreaming gender and women’s participation in environmental policy and high level stakeholder forums on environment issues.
